Booking accommodation FAQs

  • Where can I stay?

    There are several different locations on the Island with accommodation. From staying in the heart of the Settlement, to soaking up one of the bays, there is something for everyone.

  • What type of accommodation is available?

    With accommodation ranging from premium to superior ocean views and heritage cottages to comfortable, reasonably priced cabins and the hostel, Rottnest Island has something to suit all tastes and budgets. Explore the Island accommodation and pricing.

  • What's included in my accommodation?

    For a detailed description of the accommodation types, visit the accommodation page. There are plenty of images, videos and even some interactive walk throughs, to help you decide which accommodation type and inclusions suit your needs.

  • How much does it cost?

    The prices of accommodation vary from budget to premium:

  • Minimum night periods

    A minimum two night stay applies if your stay includes a Saturday night except for hostel beds and campsites.

  • What if I want to stay tonight?

    To book accommodation or campsites for same day arrivals, please contact the Reservations team on 08 9432 9111 (Mon-Fri) or the Visitor Centre on 08 9372 9730 (weekends).

  • How do I book accommodation?

    You can book accommodation online, via phone or in person at the Rottnest Island Authority. We do not take accommodation or moorings bookings via email.

    Booking online
    - Accommodation booked through this site may occasionally require a change of unit mid-stay. Should this apply to your booking, we will contact you by telephone within three working days to review other options
    - Availability for next day will not appear if checking after 5pm WST
    - Accommodation or campsites can be booked up to 18 months in advance

    Booking by phone
    - To book accommodation or campsites for same day arrivals
    - To book select special packages
    - To confirm availability of a specific unit number with an arrival date less than three weeks away

    All bookings must be paid in full at the time of booking.

  • What details do I need to make a booking?

    You will need:
    -What locations you are interested in. It is recommended that you have a preference list (e.g. top 4 locations), in case your top choices are unavailable.
    -Type of accommodation.
    -Number of guests.
    -Contact details, including mobile number and email.
    -Credit card details (all bookings must be paid in full at the time of booking).

  • How do I hire extra items, e.g. cots, high chairs, heaters?

    For a detailed inventory of what’s included in your accommodation, download your accommodation’s Inventory Inclusions.

    If you require additional items, you can complete the Hire Items Booking Form.

    Contact Rottnest Island Reservations at least 48 hours prior to arrival for hire items. Default set up is 1 king size bed per unit with remaining rooms configured as twins. Requests for alternative configurations must be received at least 7 days prior to arrival. 

    Guests staying in RIA Accommodation wishing to hire adult pedal bikes are eligible for discounted rate if booked at least 24hrs in advance through the Reservations office on 9432 9111.

  • When does accommodation become available for booking?

    Rottnest Island Authority accommodation can be booked approximately 18 months ahead of arrival and peak periods are no longer balloted. The new booking period will continue to be released on the first working day of each month, as near as possible to the 18 month time frame. The list indicates from what date bookings for Rottnest Island Authority accommodation can be made into the future. 

  • Can I alter or cancel my booking?

    Yes, however cancellations and modifications either in part or in full, will incur a cancellation fee dependant on the amount of notice you give us and the product and services that you have purchased.

  • Can I transfer my booking to someone else?

    Yes, bookings may be transferred to another key holder with a least 24 hours written notice. The registered guest must be over 18 years of age and spend each night in the accommodation for the duration of the booking. Photo identification will be required when the key is collected.

  • When do I find out my unit number?

    Your accommodation number will be emailed to you approximately 3 weeks prior to your arrival date.

  • Is there a shuttle to our accommodation?

    The Shuttle bus to Geordie, Longreach, Fays Bay and Kingstown Barracks now attracts a small per person fee of $3 per day or $5 per week. Children under 5 years travel free. Please refer to Island Guide for timetable.

  • What do I do when I arrive?

    Getting to Rottnest Island in Western Australia (WA) is easy, with various transport options close to the State’s capital, Perth; you can take a ferry, plane or your own boat.
