About

The UCI Gran Fondo World Series or “GFWS” is a series of cycling races held globally, these events are sanctioned by Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI).  There are 15 qualifier events held all over the world, including the GFWS Perth Time Trial and Gran Fondo which CIC has hosted since 2011.  Within the qualifying event there are eight age categories that cyclists are separated into; 19 – 34, 35 – 39, 40 – 44, 45 – 49, 50 – 54, 55 – 59, 60 – 64 and 65+.  The top 25% from each of these age categories are eligible for the 2016 Gran Fondo World Championships or "GFWC".

Cyclists participating in the GFWC compete in a Team Relay, a Time Trial and a Road Race.  The winner of each of these events is crowned the World Champion and awarded the coveted rainbow jersey.

The GFWS promotes a high level of competition for masters and amateurs, but more importantly promotes the globalisation of “Cycling for All”.  The 2016 Gran Fondo World Championships will take place outside of Europe, which occurs every four years, in the beautiful city of Perth.  Hosted and managed by CIC Events, this sporting event will offer an exciting cycling and tourism opportunity for all participants.
