ANZAC Day 2022

Travel to Rottnest Island for a special ANZAC service like no other.

ANZAC Day holds a special place on the Rottnest Island calendar. With a long military history, we commemorate all who have served and continue to serve our great nation.

Join us to reflect and mark this important day of remembrance with services on the foreshore of Thomson Bay.

Program of Events 

Sunday 24 April

5:45pm Dusk Service
Thomson Bay Lawn
An opportunity to pay your respects on the eve of ANZAC Day, with a service conducted as the sun sets over the island.

Monday 25 April

6am Dawn Service
Thomson Bay Lawn
As the sun rises over the ocean, stand as we mark ANZAC Day and honour the dedication and sacrifice shown by our service men and women.

7:30am - 10am Live Music
Thomson Bay Lawn
The Southern Star Bush Band combines Australian classics with Irish and English folk tunes to delight audiences of all ages.

Please note that there will be no gunfire breakfast at this years service, breakfast will be available to purchase at various businesses on the island.

Explore the History of Rottnest

In recognition of the day, we invite you to learn more about the history of Rottnest Island, including its pivotal role in WWI and WWII military operations. Join a guided tour with one of our knowledgeable Rottnest Volunteer Guides or check out the newly refurbished Wadjemup Museum.

Bickley Battery Trail Tours

Explore the Kingstown Barracks and the site of the 6-inch guns that made up the Bickley Battery. The battery was part of the overall military establishment on Rottnest Island which included the 9.2-inch guns at Oliver Hill and the observation post and the radio and radar facilities at the Wadjemup Lighthouse.

Schedule:

These free tours depart regularly from 8:30am until 11:30am from Kingstown Barracks. Bookings are not required. Catch the complimentary shuttle bus from the Main Bus Stop to Kingstown Barracks from 8am to meet your guide.

Wadjemup Museum

The newly renovated Wadjemup Museum shares the wide-ranging stories of the island. Explore exhibits from 40,000-year-old-artefacts to contemporary stories of holidaymakers, past and present.

Schedule:

Open 8am to 3:30pm. Wadjemup Museum is located behind the General Store in the Settlement and entry is by gold coin donation. PayWave and cash donations are accepted with proceeds going to the Rottnest Foundation.

Ferry Travel

Sunday 24 April

Make a day of it and arrive early prior to the service and return on a late departure at 9pm with Rottnest Express.

Veterans and current service men and women can also take advantage of free, same-day-return ferry travel to attend this service with Rottnest Express. To book these fares, call Rottnest Express on 1300 467 688.

Monday 25 April

Early morning discounted ferry services departing Fremantle and Hillarys will be available to get you to the island in time for the service.

Current and ex-service men, women and veterans can also take advantage of free, same-day-return ferry travel to attend the ANZAC Day service. To book these fares, please contact your ferry provider directly.

Getting to the Services

For guests staying on the Island, a complimentary shuttle bus is available to get you from your accommodation to the services.

To find your nearest stop and departure times please refer to the bus timetable. Times are approximate.

Regular bus services resume after the ANZAC Day service.,

To assist with managing the capacity of this event, please ensure you register all members of your party. 

Masks are no longer required at outdoor events, however they are recommended in crowded spaces.
