Australian Women's Army Service 80th Anniversary
Commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Australian Women’s Army Service on Rottnest Island.The Rottnest Voluntary Guides Association (RVGA) will commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Australian Women’s Army Service (AWAS) first deployment of women to Rottnest Island during World War II with a special weekend of interactive events.
The commemoration will begin on Saturday with a welcoming ceremony and guest speaker. Saturday afternoon and Sunday will offer interactive family activities – try your hand at using semaphore flags, send messages using morse code and operate signal lamps.
Throughout the weekend there will be interpretive displays and activities including extra guides stationed at Signal Ridge and extra guided tours at Bickley Battery.
