NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The week is an opportunity for people to participate in a range of activities and to support the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. 

For NAIDOC Week, Rottnest Island will be celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture and achievements by running a series of free and ticketed activities.

Event Times and Details

Thursday 11 July - Coffee series: Yarn with Miss NAIDOC Perth 2019
Ilona McGuire, Miss NAIDOC Perth 2019 will host a morning coffee event where she will talk about what it means to be Miss NAIDOC Perth, what NAIDOC Week means to her and reflect on this year’s theme – Voice, Treaty, Truth.  

Time: 10.30am – 11.30am

Friday 12 July – Walking Tour: Aboriginal Culture and History
Join the Rottnest Island Authority’s Aboriginal Heritage Officer for an informative session on Rottnest Island’s Aboriginal culture, history and reconciliation projects and then depart on a one hour Aboriginal heritage guided walking tour including a sand ceremony and visiting sites associated with former Rottnest Island prison. 

Time: 10.30am to 12.00noon
