Celebrate the wonder of nature as quokka joeys emerge on Wadjemup / Rottnest Island with a weekend of family fun.

The Noongar season of Djilba marks the beginning of spring, bringing warmer weather, flourishing native plants and the emergence of quokka joeys from their mothers' pouches.

Join us on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September 2026 for a free, fun-filled weekend celebrating the island's most famous resident, with live entertainment, wildlife encounters, hands-on activities, sustainable crafts and outdoor adventures for all ages.

Enjoy even greater value during Little Quokka's Big Birthday Weekend with free kids ferry travel and island admission offers from Rottnest Express, Rottnest Fast Ferries and SeaLink Rottnest. Explore the full details of each provider's offer before booking.

Children aged 5 – 12 years can also receive an exclusive Wadjemup / Rottnest Island Nature Passport at the event, which can be collected from the Event Information point.

Where to find Little Quokka’s Big Birthday Weekend

The event is located in the heart of the Main Settlement, across Thomson Lawn and the terraces in front of the Visitor Centre. Visitors will find the event site just a two-minute walk or 350 metres from the Main Jetty.

There are connecting paved paths around the event site that are smooth and well-maintained, with some areas of inclination. Most of the activities take place on grass, although a few will be held on soft soil and bark.
