Wadjemup Museum for Children

Wadjemup / Rottnest Island visitors of all ages can journey on an educational adventure and engage with the stories of the island, past and present.

Once known as Lomas Cottage, the building was constructed in 1871 for ex-convict John Lomas. Today, it stands as a space to ignite curiosity and understanding as you wander through the heritage structure.

Tales of Wadjemup’s past are brought to life through unusual artefacts, bold displays, and interactive exhibits. All of which are designed to capture, and hold, attention.

Fascinating audio accounts offer a unique opportunity to peer into the past, while carefully preserved artefacts allow visitors to relive surprising stories.

View the statue of James Egan ‘Always Was, Always Will Be’ in Heritage Common and reflect upon the history of Western Australian coastline, which has provided for Noongar peoples and supported survival. This is one of the art installations that is for sale as part of the Wadjemup Museum Sculpture Garden.
