There’s no better place to spend the last day of 2024, and ring in a joyful new year with friends and family.

Head off for a relaxing morning exploring the beauty of the island, followed by an afternoon filled with fun family entertainment. As the sun sets over the picturesque Indian Ocean, gather together to mark the occasion with a spectacular free family fireworks display illuminating the skies above Thomson Bay at 8 pm. It's the perfect way to create lasting memories and usher in a bright and hopeful start to the upcoming year.

With regular ferry services departing back to Fremantle and Hillarys, you can enjoy the island all day and head home after the fireworks conclude.

This event is free to attend, but registration is required.

Visitor Safety & Wellbeing 

New Year’s Eve is a particularly popular time on Rottnest Island. To ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable night, remember that: 

  • Drinking alcohol in public spaces is prohibited in accordance with Western Australian law.

  • Minors must be supervised by a parent or legal guardian while on the island, including overnight.

Let the jovial hosting style of Holly Denton guide you throughout the day. Holly will be on the microphone at the Pelagic Main Stage offering between-show entertainment and sharing details about upcoming performances.

DJ KP will be spinning the decks at the Pelagic Main Stage offering between-show music.

Traditional Owner - Neville Collard

Join highly respected and locally well-known Noongar Elder, Uncle Neville Collard as he commences the day with a welcome to Whadjuk boodja (country) and join in with the smoking ceremony. After, join Neville for some rock painting over on Seawall Lawn.

Traditional Dance Performance and Workshop - Njalak Nidja

Immerse yourself in Aboriginal culture with Njalak Nidja. The enriching combination of traditional music, dance and storytelling creates a captivating experience.

Midnight Movers Show – Freedom Fairies

The Midnight Movers are on a mission! Along the way, they’ll visit quirky planets, meet playful alien friends, and navigate a few hilarious mishaps. The journey is fueled by the energy of the audience, who help by answering questions and dancing their way through cosmic challenges.

A Circus Game Show – Ricochet Circus and Entertainment

Roll up Roll up! It's not just a Circus; it's not just a Game Show – it's A Circus Game Show. Watch as this One-Of-A-Kind Choose-Your-Own-Adventure spectacle unfolds.

Stars and Lights Show – All The Lights

A show for all ages! Get ready to join All The Lights on a musical journey featuring an incredible light show. This fun, creative, high-energy show is where circus & dance infuse.

Have A Go Circus Workshop – Ricochet Circus and Entertainment

Have A Go Circus! Ricochet Circus will be here with a big box of circus props that kids and families can play with, perfect for any age and ability.

Kids Beach Sports – Gecko Sports

Let the kids take to the white sands of South Thomson Beach and play the afternoon away. Engaging activities on offer include Ninja Warrior challenges, obstacle courses, plus beach, gladiator, and multi-sport games. 

Sandcastle Building – Sand Sculpture WA

Kids and big kids alike can get involved with this interactive sandcastle building, right on North Thomson Beach.

Sensory Play – Freedom Fairies

Kids will have the chance to ignite their curiosity and freely engage in all the sensory play their hearts and hands desire.

Grab your family and head on over to the photo booth to capture the special moment.

Where to find the NYE Family Fireworks

The activations will be based in the settlement area, across Thomson Lawn and the terraces in front of the Visitor Centre, an easy walk from the main jetty.
