Rottnest Volunteer Guides Walking Tours

Free guided walking tours are offered daily by the friendly and knowledgeable Rottnest Volunteer Guides. 

Dive into curious stories of the past, and discover insights about the island today. Take your pick of tours that focus on the wildlife, heritage, and sustainability of Wadjemup. 

These free walking tours depart daily from the historic Salt Store building, next to the Rottnest Volunteer Guides Information Booth.

Be sure to bring a water bottle along and wear protective clothing (hat, sunglasses, enclosed shoes, long shirt). Cameras are also encouraged to capture the interesting sights you’ll see along the way.

While every attempt is made to conduct tours and activities as scheduled, times may be varied due to weather and volunteer guide availability.

Meet the Quokkas

Observe the island’s famous inhabitants as they go about their daily wanderings.

Tour departs daily at 9:30 am and 2:30 pm (subject to change).

Pioneers and Prisoners

Enjoy a leisurely 45-minute stroll through the historic settlement. Hear the stories of those who lived and worked in the buildings.

Tour departs daily at 10 am (subject to change).

Reefs, Wrecks and Daring Sailors

Hear tales of shipwrecks and sailors on this 45-minute waterfront walk. See the boathouse and replica pilot boat along the way.

Tour departs daily at 11 am (subject to change).

Salt, Settlers and Survivors

Learn about the agriculture and industry of the island as you tour past the settlement's old colonial buildings. The tour then heads to Vlamingh Lookout for panoramic views.

Tour departs daily at 1:30 pm (subject to change).

West End Wanderer

Arrive by bus or bike and allow 30 to 45 minutes to explore Wadjemup’s wild West End, including the seal colony, Cathedral Rocks, the shearwater rookery, Fishhook Bay and more. 

A roving guide is available onsite daily from 10:30 am to 2 pm (subject to change).

Whitecaps and Wilderness

View the beautiful coastline and discover the area’s native flora and fauna. During the 30 minute walk, you’ll learn about the formation, geology and marine reserves of Wadjemup.

Tour departs regularly each day between 10 am and 1 pm (subject to change) from Parker Point.

Where to find the Rottnest Volunteer Guides

You'll find the volunteer guides at the information booth located next to the Salt Store building in the main settlement, a short walk from the Visitor Centre. Just look for the yellow shirts or vests.
